In late March and early April, the Tri-Rivers Area is home to thousands of migrating tundra swans, ducks, Canada geese, and various shorebirds.  This is followed by the arrival of the sandhill cranes and great blue herons, who make their summer homes in the many wetlands surrounding the rivers.  Another spectacular migration which takes place around mid-April is the spawning of the sturgeon.  These prehistoric fish travel from Lake Winnebago to the Embarrass & Wolf Rivers in order to lay their eggs along the riverbanks.  Viewing is best along the bank of the Embarrass River in Pfeifer Park (New London), and along the bank of the Wolf River on Old State Hwy 54 (Shiocton).
