Public Lands

The Tri-Rivers Nature Area contains six public wildlife preserves totaling 25,000 acres.  These preserves are open year-round.  The area has two nature centers.  Mosquito Hill Nature Center, a 430 acre preserve, is one of the best "birding" places around.   The center has a full time staff, an observatory, a new butterfly house, and a multitude of interesting programs for public involvement.  Navarino Nature Center located in the 15,000 acre Navarino Wildlife Area, features prairie plantings, wild flowers, and large populations of sandhill cranes, Canada geese and other waterfowl.   Admission to both nature centers is free.

A hazy morning in one of the public watchable wildlife areas.
